I love this shop! They were so helpful with my truck. I ultimately had to ditch it because of different problems. But the staff is amazing! It makes me sad to see the ownership changing hands. 8-20-15

I would give a 20 star review if possible!

I had such a great experience at this business. Isaac the owner and his team are kind, educated and professional. Their honesty and integrity and awesome customer service really impressed me. They are my new mechanics in SLO!

Had a wonderful experience. Quoted 1300 to fix my truck from Perry Ford, they got it down to 1000 with additional work and no fee for diagnostics! Very personable and on time. Funny guys, absolutely know what they are doing and want what’s best for you

Great experience at Certified! Friendly and helpful staff!

I've brought all my cars and trucks to Certified Auto for the last 20 years at least. They consistently provide top quality service and repairs. The team there always tell me about things that might need attention, without it being a pressure (unless, of course the issue is critical). I get sound advice when I come in with questions. They turn around their work on time, every time. And the quality of the repair work is top notch, even through personnel changes. I've needed everything from oil changes to major drivetrain repairs, brakes, tune-ups, shocks, pre-purchase inspections, AC/heater repair, 4x4 drivetrain issues, timing belts, cooling system leaks, electrical and charging system issues, and one time, the entire transmission bolted back into the car. In every case I've been totally happy with the work. Great shop, and I always recommend them.

— Google User Review

Everyone was very friendly - my oil change was done in a reasonable amount of time and my Subaru is running well. To those at Certified Auto Repair - Thanks for your kindness!

— Google User Review

Great guys. Were more than fair to us, looked out for our long-term interests. Thanks!

Only Auto shop I've ever taken the time out of my day to write a review. Trustworthy mechanics make it quick, fairly priced and easy. Only place I'll have my car worked on in slo

One of the best customer service experiences I've ever had!

Max is the man, I've never met someone so friendly and accommodating. Dude seriously deserves a raise! He was always in a great mood and fixed my car as fast as possible while also doing really quality work. He gave me the best prices he possibly could and talked to me about all the work he did on the car.

Thank you so much Max! I'll definitely be returning in the future.

we were there for a quick road trip check today and couldn't be happier.

Had all four brakes on our Acura replaced 10 mos ago. Since then have had to have both rear calipers replaced. One within several weeks of install, and one now at 10 months. To their credit, they replaced both under warranty, but we question the quality of parts being used, especially since we don't drive that car very much. After replacing the second rear caliper, the hand brake no longer worked and they recommended replacing the cable, at $400. Took the car in to another mechanic recommended by neighbors. His opinion is that the calipers never should have gone bad that quick, and the cable was possiblly damaged during the caliper replacements.

After paying about $1,200 for the first brake job, having to take the car in for a day each time for the subsequent repairs, and now questions about needing to pay another $400 plus for a cable probably damaged during the brake work, we are hesitant.

Subsequent to this post, Isaac did call and discuss the situation. I appreciate very much his involvement, honesty and willingness to work to a resolution. That integrity alone is missing in many businesses and is a ray of hope. Thanks.

— Google User Review

Super friendly staff who were willing to talk to me while I waited for my oil change and offered me doughnuts! They explained some maintenance my vehicle would probably need soon and why (it's a little older), but they didn't try to push me into getting any of it done right away like places I've visited in the past. I'll definitely go back in the future.

— Google User Review

I went in with a question and they didn't have the means to fix my problem but they were very helpful in pointing me in the right direction.

— Google User Review

I rented a car in San Jose and drove to San Luis to visit my college student son (we live out of state). The car had a warning light come on. I called rental agency and they said to take it 30 miles up the road to their nearest location. Instead, I stopped by Certified and they plugged in their computer and read the code. Turned out to be ignorable for the duration of my rental. They didn't charge me! My son now uses this shop for his car. They do good work every time. Great place, great people.

— Google User Review

Always a good experience here. Fair prices, good workmanship, knowledgeable and honest. Have taken several vehicles here regularly over the years and never had a bad experience. Usually pretty fast too.

— Google User Review

These guys were so easy to work with! They know good customer service. Each person I spoke to, mainly Don, was very nice over the phone, they explained everything and were very thorough in making sure they made the correct diagnosis. They let me drop my car off after hours, and were able to help me process what I owed them and get my car back to me, ISSUE SOLVED, and pick my car up after they closed that same day because I work past the time they close. They didn't rip me off either. Very fair pricing. They definitely have me as a returning customer if I need anything else done.

— Google User Review

I have taken my car here for years and I consistently get friendly and timely service. They don't give you 'the runaround' , the quotes are always fair PLUS they give a student discount. These guys are exceptional.

— Google User Review

These guys are great! Friendly, quick, and honest service. Max is awesome!

— Google User Review

Great experience! Super helpful and nice! Had the worst morning but certified (Max and Tj) turned it around!

— Google User Review

My family and I have been taking our cars here for years. Honest and helpful group. Don is very friendly and walked me through any car issues. They also got my car in top shape before a sale. Highly recommend.

— Google User Review

Straight-shooters with great customer service! Quick repairs and they stand behind their work. Don has been taking care of my family's cars for over a decade now. They have earned my trust!

— Google User Review

I just need to write this out, because along with all the other reviews of this diamond in the rough business are simply not enough. I have a 1999 Chevy Silverado that has thrown almost every problem it possibly could at me over the last 5-6 years (knock on wood). I can confidently say that I have visited every mechanic in SLO and never found a mechanic that I felt comfortable with- I always had a nagging feeling that I was being ripped off, or work wasn't being done correctly, etc. I was convinced that this town was simply full of mechanics who do whatever they want and prey on the Cal Poly kids with Mom & Dad's money. That is, until I found Certified Auto Repair. In my unending search for a mechanic to call "mine", I tried them out when my truck needed a high mileage oil change. I'm not comfortable doing it myself due to the fact that a different local mechanic had crossthreaded my oil plug, then turned around and told me that I needed a new oil pan, and that they could do that for me in the neighborhood of $1700. Certified Auto Repair manages that situation by carefully utilizing an oversized plug, and always takes into consideration my conservative budget. They do agree that my oil pan will need to be replaced, but their willingness to continue allowing ME to make the decision to roll with the oversized plug is huge to me- they're not trying to force an upsell or make me do something that is costly, and avoidable for the time being. They do a great job of explaining what COULD happen, and I'm well aware, but it's my decision- and they respect it. HUGE SHOUTOUT to Max, he's not only a heck of a mechanic, but his customer service skills are superb. He always goes out of his way to please. Thank you Max!

Lastly, in terms of their prices, they're fair and reasonable- and ALWAYS thoroughly explained. In fact, that oil pan quote I received from the "other mechanic" was over DOUBLE what certified auto quoted, and when I'm ready to make that fix, there's no other mechanic I'll be going to, I've found my mechanic!

Really friendly, honest, helpful guys. I would recommend this place to all of my friends. They have really taken care of me the 2 times I have needed car help.

— Google User Review

Correctly diagnosed my problem in one question on the spot, was the only shop in town that quoted me a reasonable labor cost, stood by their quote, accommodated me supplying my own parts, and did top notch work!

Great repair shop, without a doubt where I will exclusively be taking my car from now on!

— Google User Review

Best Auto Shop in the county! Very knowledgable, extremely helpful. When I want to get greasy, I fix it myself. When I want it done right, I take it to Don. Lifetime customer since 2005, couldn't be happier.

We took our 2015 Civic to Certified Auto Repair at the recommendation of a friend who has had great experiences there. We had a couple mystery sounds to diagnose, which, in our experience with other cars, rarely ends with a price we are happy with (or even a diagnosis, half the time!) This time we were pleasantly surprised! Apparently, the mystery sound was an easy fix and we received a shockingly low bill at the end of the day. We were also able to make our appointment online, which was convenient. They have definitely earned more loyal customers! Hopefully, we won't need them very often... but if we do, it's nice to have someone we trust that we can call.

— Yelp User Review

Had to get an oil change and get a second opinion on certain repairs before I paid a ton of money and moved forward with the process! I used to go to Landis but they currently are unavailable so I was told good things about Certified Auto Repair. I also had a holiday postcard in the mail from them with free windshield wipers with an oil change purchase.

One huge bonus is I can walk there from my house so I was able to go home while my car was getting fixed up. My oil change was done in about 40 minutes, and Sam called me to let me know I need a new cabin air filter as well. He gave me a good price over the phone and worked on it while I was walking back. I got helpful recommendations about a few other replacements needed, and the final price for the day was reasonable! I also called Wednesday morning and was able to get an appointment Thursday appointment which is always a plus than having to wait another week or so.

Overall, great experience, phenomenal customer service, convenient location- I'll definitely be back!

Side note: I definitely have gotten cheap self service car washes there too before- it's easy and quick!

— Yelp User Review

I saw consistently good reviews for Certified Auto Repairs on Yelp and gave them a call when my recently-acquired '94 Corolla's check engine light came on. I talked with Sam three times, making an appointment, breaking the appointment (because I foolishly forgot about an upcoming vacation). He generously offered to let me leave the car there for the two weeks I'd be gone.

Anyway, I brought the car in for work and had several things repaired. Fair price and great work!

— Yelp User Review

If I could give a 20 STAR review I would! This business is AMAZING! Isaac the owner is the coolest-kindest person! His team is honest & fair! I was so nervous not to take my Jeep to the dealer when the check engine light came on! I found this business on YELP & they are my forever mechanics! Sam gave me great recommendations & the experience was truly wonderful. Single Mom freaked out by car issues & know I FEEL SAFE! carofSLO.com Isacc thank you so much!! Traci B/Grami T

Was having truck problems and called the phone number. Spoke with Aaron who had amazing customer service and told me that I could bring my truck in immediately and his employees would look at it. It turned out that it was an easy fix and was on my way. Would definitely go back again and would recommend it to anybody in the San Luis Obispo area.

— Yelp User Review

Gets the job done on time.

Reasonable and fair prices on work that was done.

Good attitude/service from the counter. They take the time to explain things to you even though people are waiting in line.

According to the person at the counter they don't allow you to purchase your own spark plugs (perhaps even other parts?) because they don't want the liability of incompatible parts. I wish they allowed it because they were quoting me spark plugs that were 4X the price of what I could buy off Amazon (name brand manufacturers). Compatibility was easily confirmed on the manufacturer's website.

— Yelp User Review

Great service,attention to detail,and quick.

I will definitely be back, when I need any more work done, fair pricing

Thanks much

My van broke down when I was passing San Luis Obispo the day before Christmas Eve. Sent messages to numerous auto repair shop. Isaac was kind enough to respond and told me they are close for the holiday and they have a key drop in their garage. Anyway, I rented a car for the remainder of road trip and have my van fixed day after Christmas. Brake and motor busted. Price reasonable and got it done same day. Very happy with the service. Thank you, Isaac.

— Yelp User Review

By admission, this is the second Yelp evaluation I have rendered for Certified Auto Repair (CAR), San Luis Obispo, CA. since the recent change in ownership. I have had six maintenance visits, and one recent major repair, the timing belt on my Lexus RX330. I was advised at the last maintenance that the timing belt required replacement and given their estimate for that repair. Due diligence research directed me to the Lexus dealer for comparative pricing. Not surprisingly, the dealer quoted a service fee 2 1/2 times greater than CAR. I no longer feel that future price comparisons are needed. The auto now runs great and I have full trust in the analysis and integrity of the CAR personnel.

— Yelp User Review

I was recommended to Certified Auto by a friend and will definitely be going back! They are the first shop in SLO to not hassle me about upgrading to synthetic oil and even explained why my car doesn't need synthetic at this point (It's 13 years old). They also explained other things they found while doing an inspection and didn't push me to get them fixed right then & there like most shops have before.

Amazing customer service, super friendly and knowledgable, and great pricing!!! I would highly recommend.

My son who is a full-time college student was having problems with his car's battery at Cal Poly. We had the insurance help him get the car to Certified Auto Repair and they were a big help! They found that the 2017 battery was not good. They replaced it for free since it was an interstate. They are so awesome and we will return if we need any auto help! Thanks so much for being great people!

— Yelp User Review

I have a Lexus RX 300 on it's last leg and appreciated the transparency of Sam and the team here. I read through multiple Lexus forums on this model of car and had a feeling that what I was dealing with with going to cost a ton of money. The news I was given was that my car was close to retirement, but I appreciated the honesty and information that was given. They gave me an estimate of how much longer it had to run, clearly communicated what they could do in the meantime, and were super efficient and clear with communication through the entire process--the communication is key here! They were able to get my car running, but also let me know what to expect in the future. Which is so important! The cost of repair was reasonable and I felt more informed than I had when I went to the Lexus dealership a year prior. I also got to see some interactions with other customers and saw the same honest approach and kindness shown to them. I strongly recommend using their services.

I came in with a mini-emergency. I just moved my daughter into Cal Poly SLO and on the way up, noticed her brake light was out. The new light was installed in five minutes and complimentary. Now she's safer driving and won't get pulled over by SLO's finest. Thank you!

— Yelp User Review

Regrettably, this review is long overdue for this incredible place. I need to set the stage with my story, as it is the reason why Lenny and everyone at Certified Auto are my heroes.

June 18th I was on my way from Chatsworth to Arroyo Seco campground outside of Greenfield with my dog and a PT Cruiser full of gear. Poor Goldie had been getting hot in the previous weeks and despite some repairs, went to red and broke her water right as I pulled off the 101 at Brand in SLO. I explained my situation to 3 shops over the phone, and was told maybe they could look at it by Tuesday. Not helpful. Then I called Certified Auto, explained my situation and Lenny said though they were busy he would fit me in real quick. After I came back from breakfast at a cafe he recommended, Lenny gave me the bad news that Goldie had cracked the head gasket, which as we all know is a death sentence. He was visibly pained to tell me that, knowing my plans for the week and events leading up to this special getaway.

The following things Lenny did are what puts this shop head and torso above anywhere else I've been. He told me that my options were to junk the car in SLO and get a ride home, or he would call his person at Hertz by SLO airport and get me their shop rate him so I could continue my camping expedition (he really likes Arroyo Seco and told me I have to see it, and the girl at Hertz was happy to get another customer from him). So I got a Hyundai Sonata (surprisingly fit all my gear easily), left Lenny the key to Goldie (which he held all week without charge) and went on my way. Before I left, Lenny told me he just bought a 1990 Acura Legend as a shop run around car from a longtime customer and seeing that I was in need of a car, told me he would consider selling it to me. To recap - car breaks down 3 hours from home where I know no one, shop gets me a breakfast spot, quick diagnosis, sympathy, rental car discount, safe spot for Goldie and the opportunity to buy a car that has been cared for at that shop religiously by an 85 year old man.

By Wednesday I feel that all of these things are not coincidence, and that I was meant to have that Acura. Upon my arrival back to the shop on Friday and a test drive in the Acura, I made Lenny a reasonable offer that he accepted. Now since my last 2 vehicles before Goldie were taken from me (hit and run where the truck was scrapped before I could take personal effects, and the second truck consumed in a ball of fire -no one hurt), I wanted to scrap everything I could. I removed my stereo, but the door panels needed a special star shaped torque wrench to get at my Kicker speakers. Anyone who knows a mechanic or tradesman understands that they just don't lend out their tools, let alone strangers. But one of Certified's mechanics Ray allowed me to borrow his whole set! He could have easily told me tough beans, go buy one from the Napa Auto Parts across the street, but I feel he was being cool because of all I'd been through. Before I returned the rental, Lenny let me borrow their shop vac to get the dog hair out of the car rather than paying for the car wash one.

It has been almost 2 months since that happened and I just concluded a final repair to the Acura (which I knew about at the time of purchase). To everyone there I talked with; Lenny, Isaac, Ray and Sam - you guys are so awesome, thank you. If that had happened to me in Studio City, Ventura, Santa Clarita or many other places, I might have been just SOL and on my own to figure things out. Thanks to you guys, best experience possible. I know what happened to me is rare, and these guys knew it too, but with that knowledge this crew went above and way beyond. If I lived 2 hours closer, Certified Auto would be my place to go. Hell, if they were open on Saturday I'd take the 3 hour trip, have lunch at the Libertine, let Lenny give Maggie a Milkbone from the jar on the counter and read a book in the shade by the carwash while Ray does his thing.

If you read this far, awesome. Please give these guys your business, they are wholly deserving of it.

— Yelp User Review

These guys were awesome! I'm new to the area so wasn't sure to go, but was so glad I ended up here. Sam and Lenny were just so helpful and nice. This is going to be the new service center for me and my family.

— Yelp User Review

Top Notch!!!!

Superior service, friendly and very professional. Coming from another repair shop with a list of "must do immediately" that I did not feel completely confident with and coupled with significant expense, I asked Certified to check it out. They could have agreed with the list and matched the previously quoted price but did not and suggested another alternative saving 75%. Certified also claimed that I had another 10,000 miles before I would have to tackle the "must do immediately" list which, in my mind, confirmed the dishonesty of the other repair shop. Certified does not prey nor profit from trumped up misinformation. They profit from honesty, reasonable prices, great service and repeat loyal customers. KEEP UP THE GREAT WORK BOYS!

I have to give a shout out to the guys who helped me with my car. My check engine light was on and I needed to drive back toIrvine and these guys got me ready and I made it back without car trouble! I can't thank you enough.

Some of the best, most thorough mechanics I have ever been to. During the oil change they completed a thorough inspection and even took pictures. They are very honest and only suggest work that is absolutely necessary. Thank you!!!

— Yelp User Review

Just had my appointment today and service was great. They were quick. Sam was great, he made my friend and I laugh and got us in and out during our lunch hour. I usually don't write reviews but I was very happy with the service and on top of that they were very reasonably priced. They don't try to up-sell anything. I appreciate that. Will be back!

— Yelp User Review

Went in to get a CV axel replaced on my car and was pleasantly surprised when they were able to get my repaired car back to me in 4 hours! AND I left my water bottle (with many stickers from various travels) in the shop and they called me the next day to ask if it was mine, and wanted to make sure I got it back! Thanks for making my day two days in a row!

— Yelp User Review

Doesn't get much better than this shop for an honest and trustworthy auto shop. Can't say enough about the staff too. Don, TJ and Isaac, you all rock!!

I will be back for sure as you are now my shop of choice, yes it is a little drive from Pismo but worth it . Thank you for taking care of the suburban and Prius .

— Yelp User Review

Highly recommended for fast, friendly and professional service!! While visiting I ended up with car issues that needed attention right away. They inspected my car, free of charge, and gave me their findings with a quote within an hour of dropping it off. The price was great and they had me back on the road home in no time!!

— Yelp User Review

My car's battery broke down and Max helped me out with amazing customer service. He never cut any corners and he gave me the best price possible. I'll definitely be going here for all my future maintenance needs as long as I'm in SLO

— Yelp User Review

The guys at Certified ALWAYS take great care of me & my little Honda. I always recommend them with complete confidence in their service, and Don is the perfect service writer, combining his knowledge about cars with a friendly personality.

I have gone here twice for an oil change. It's a little pricier than the chains, but totally worth it. Everyone is so nice and professional. They don't try to rip you off. Highly recommend this place!

— Yelp User Review

We recently came in for an oil change. The staff was professional, prices were fair. My son reported he had had some wheel vibration upon braking. The repair crew discovered the problem and fixed the brake problem in the same afternoon. very pleased with the CP student discount they provided, it was very helpful. Thank you!

— Yelp User Review

I am on vacation and my front bumper guard was dragging on the street and making a horrible noise which drew the attention of all bystanders!! I checked yelp and came across Certified Auto Repair. I was greeted by Max who immediately took my car, put it on the rack and removed the guard at no charge! You do not find that kind of excellent service anywhere these days!!! I wish I lived in the area so I could bring my car here for auto work! This is a honest and great auto shop! Thank you Max!!!

— Yelp User Review

These guys are the dictionary definition of an honest mechanic (and I thought that was an oxymoron). My car totally bit the dust with a scorched-out starter and busted battery, and they had me up and running in less than a few hours for muuuch less than I was being quoted at other area mechanics.

I am forever indebted, you guys saved my golden chariot!

When trouble rears its ugly head again, I'll be back.

— Yelp User Review

Called about getting a brake light replaced and Don said that it would be a courtesy thing, he'd just send me across the street to buy a bulb and he'd put it in for me. I got there, and they already had a bulb and replaced it free of charge. Of course I tipped. The process was short and seamless. Don and his staff were all very helpful and kind. Though my encounter with them was brief, they provided excellent service and I'm sure the rest of their services are of the same caliber.

— Yelp User Review

My daughter is a student at Cal Poly and has brought her car here a few times and these guys are the best. Don has taken very good care of her car and made sure her car was safe to drive back to Colorado. They are very honest and trustworthy as well. We had an issues on a repair after returning to Colorado last year and Don took care of it. I would not hesitate recommending these guys.

— Yelp User Review

This is the most honest auto shop I have ever been to in six years of being a car owner. The past few months I have had several car problems following an accident. Never enjoying any of the shops I went to, I decided to try C.A.R when I needed a brake light changed. I showed up, no appointment, expecting to pay $20-40 after reading online what it SHOULD cost. The man who did it (I think his name was Don, but not positive) was so incredibly kind and helpful. When I pulled my card out to pay he did it free of charge. After how much I have been spending in car repairs lately and the terrible luck I have been having with my car, I couldn't help but leave in tears. There are still good people in this world and because of this small gesture, Certified Auto Repair will forever have my business.

— Yelp User Review

Have been taking our vehicles to them since my dad first moved here in 80s. Now I bring my kids autos here. Always the best and friendliest. Knowledgeable and very helpful in trying times. Thanks for all you do!

— Yelp User Review

So many reasons why I'm glad that I took my car here:

1) THEY DON'T RIP YOU OFF! I was told that I needed to get my brake pads and rotors replaced immediately. The place that told me this gave me an estimate of $575 for these repairs. As a female college student, I'm savvy to getting ripped off, so I decided to call around to a couple more auto shops. The second place gave me an estimate of $400. Certified Auto Repair? $325. Obviously, I made an appointment here!

2) They will get you in. I called to make an appointment yesterday and they got me in in under 24 hours. They were crazy busy, but they still made it happen.

3) STUDENT DISCOUNT. When they were charging me (the charge ended up being $270 because I didn't actually need rotors, the other place just tried to screw me over) they asked if I was a student...it brought my total down to $235. Let me repeat this - my car repairs went from $575 to $235 because this place cares about your finances (particularly students).

4) The repairs took a lot longer than originally estimated and I had things that I really needed to be getting done at home, so they gave me a ride home AND offered to pick me up when the repairs were done.

5) Their service was personable, humorous, and just fun to be around (can't forget that ADORABLE greeting pup).

6) THEY DO NOT LECTURE YOU. I feel like every time I go to get my oil changed or tires rotated I could a condescending lecture about the specific measurements that everything needs to be at...hence why I took my car in. I'm paying for it to be kept driving smooth and safely, not to hear about some dumb (actually really intelligent) computer in my car that's telling a "fix engine" or "maintenance required light" to come on. Props to CAR for doing my repairs and keeping me entertained with nice conversation, hilarious jokes, and a really really sweet dog that could cuddle forever.

Just wow. I couldn't have asked for a better experience. I'm very impressed with Don and crew!

— Yelp User Review

If you live in the area or are in the area in need of automotive service, these are the guys to go to. While on vacation with my wife my truck had some issues due to a faulty repair by a shop in my hometown. I had my truck towed to their shop. Don, the manager, was friendly, informative, and thorough. He quickly diagnosed the problem, got his mechanics working on my car, and offered couple of approaches. They repaired my truck, made it safe for me to drive, and I was back on vacation in no time. The price was reasonable and the work was top notch. Just wished I lived in the area so I could keep coming back!

— Yelp User Review

I'm new in SLO and relied on Yelp to find a shop that wouldn't make me cringe dealing with dreaded and costly car repairs. I needed new front brakes and transmission service. I scheduled an appointment with Don for the next day and found their shop to be conveniently near downtown and within walking distance to my house.

Don called to let me know what was needed and quoted me a price that we agreed on. My car was ready in the afternoon and I was pleased there were no hidden fees or charges. I feel like the repair costs were fair and the full service safety check they give as a courtesy is valued.

I noticed a malfunctioning airbag light (common with my model vehicle and no fault of the shop) after my service and had time to bring it by before work. In fact, I'm writing this review from their office as I wait. Despite hustling around and busy as can be, they're looking in to the problem with a promise to get me out of here quickly.

This is a fair, honest, and efficient shop with happy people. Take a look at their bulletin board that highlights happy customers. I never want to spend money on repairs and this shop made it as painless as they could.

I am new to SLO and based my choice on the reviews I had read about this business.

Their quality service exceeded my expectations. These guys are HONEST, communicative, and professional.

I had my clutch and flywheel changed, the car shifts perfectly and my cup holder was surprisingly fixed.

I brought my car back to change a battery terminal and they did not even charge me.

They will treat you right and you will be satisfied.

This is the best shop I have been to so far, members of the community seem to be unanimous about their reliability.

Thank you guys, It was the first time I did not feel bad paying to get my car repaired :)

Great service and excellent prices. Thank you Don for helping us out during our vacation to SLO.

Excellent attention to detail, superb customer service and they treat you like family. Reasonable prices and the team works diligently to get you and your car back on the road as soon as possible. Will definitely recommend to all my compadres.

I had a 5 star experience at Certified Auto Repair. My long-time shop went out of business and I needed an oil change, tire rotation, and inspection. It was easy to set an appointment and I received an email confirmation. I also received a text reminder the morning of my appointment. Don and the staff were very friendly and professional. My service was complete in a timely manner and they thoroughly explained the condition of my car when I arrived to pick it up. I have found my new auto repair shop!

— Yelp User Review

Came here after being recommended by a friend. Don and his crew were very friendly and helpful. My car is brand new and they gave me the cheapest quote and even gave me a ride back home after I left my car at the shop. Express shipping for the part cost only $20 more and labor services were a lot cheaper than most auto shops. They also did a great job on fixing my tie rod and my car was back to normal in less than a week.

Don was a huge help to me. As I was driving out of SLO on the way to Oakland, my 2009 Subaru Forester started making a clacking noise, which many of you may know comes from an engine running without oil that has 'spun the rod'. If you have a Subaru with over 100,000 miles on it, check the oil every other time you get gas! They burn through oil like crazy. Anyways, took it to Certified Auto Repair based on the reviews. Seeing that I'm from out of town and in a tough position, Don moves some things out of the way to quickly confirm that my engine is done. I head back to Oakland. He quotes me three prices for three different used engines to replace the current one, all of which were reasonable compared to research that I did at other mechanics. However, I decided to try to sell the car as is and see what I could get for it. Don was extremely helpful, allowing people from Craigslist to come see the car, answering questions on the phone, and storing the car free of charge for almost a week. Luckily, I sold it to somebody, and Don even charged me conservatively for the cost to take apart and assess the engine. Hopefully I will never need a mechanic in SLO again, but if you do, go to Certified Auto Repair. Thank you!

Let me preface by saying that I generally don't review places unless I feel compelled to do so, and this time, I really do. I've been in SLO for about five years now, but I generally had any work on my car beyond an oil change done back home. This time, though, my car was not going to make it there, so I picked Certified Auto Repair after seeing the good reviews. Brought my car in early Tuesday morning without an appointment, and Don told me he'd call me up when they figured out what was up with it, probably in an hour or so.

A few hours went by, and he finally called back and explained everything they'd tried (that didn't unearth the problem), what they planned to do next, and told me up front what the cost would be for the labor at that point before going ahead. I gave him the green light and went back later in the afternoon. The good news was that they'd figured out that I needed a new mass air flow sensor (not oxygen sensors like I'd thought), and that Don had tracked down a brand new direct fit part to put in my car. He quoted me the exact amount for parts and labor up front with an itemized receipt and told me I should be able to pick it up on Friday. Lo and behold, he called me up before noon today - Thursday - to tell me that my car was fixed and running again. Better yet, costs were exactly as quoted; a job that I had expected to run me ~$600 going into it ended up being a little more than $300.

Excellent service, quality work, and extremely nice people at CAR. These guys are the real deal, and I appreciate as a recent college grad, finally taking care of this stuff on my own. Glad to have a place where I take my car and know that it's in good hands.

I couldn't get to my laptop fast enough (and sign up on Yelp) to write a glowing review of these guys. We were on vacation on the Central Coast, our car's transmission blew up completely. Don at CAR had a garage full of vehicles plus more in the parking lot, waiting to be repaired, but they assessed our situation quickly, accurately diagnosed the problem and although I opted to haul the car home to have my mechanic do the work, CAR never even charged us for the time they spent. Beyond that the owner, Manfred, gave me a ride to pick up a rental car so we could cont. our vacation.

When I came back with a tow dolly a few days later, they quickly dropped what they were doing to help me get it loaded up. The fact that they let our car take up some of their limited storage space was worth a lot to me, but these guys restored my belief that customer service and integrity is not gone, it lives at CAR. God bless Don, Manfred and the crew.

Thanks guys

Seriously top notch auto shop. As a woman, I'm always scared of taking my car to an independent mechanic because they can so easily rip me off but Don and the guys there are so honest they make me feel really comfortable leaving my car in their capable hands. I always end up spending less than I expect and the final bill is never higher than the initial estimate - many times it comes in lower! As long as I live in slo I will continue to bring my car there. Also helps that their shop dog is super cute and friendly.

Best Auto Shop in the county! Very knowledgable, extremely helpful. When I want to get greasy, I fix it myself. When I want it done right, I take it to Don. Lifetime customer since 2005, couldn't be happier.

I would recommend Certified Auto. Don was thorough with understanding our maintenance needs and certainly took ample time explaining what the issue was when we picked it up. We have been here several times and have worked with other mechanic shops before. These guys are definitely one of the better places!

I was moving from SoCal to Santa Cruz and on the way up my car died right outside of SLO. This was on a Friday night, and most shops were already closed. The AAA guy told me he could take me to a shop open on Saturdays, but they would take advantage of the fact that I wasn't local, or he could drop the car off at Certified Auto Repair - closed on weekends, but honest guys.

I opted for Certified Auto Repair, left my car in SLO, and headed up to Santa Cruz. I was on a tight budget due to the move, and Don and the team went above and beyond to help me out, even when I was in Santa Cruz. They found the most affordable options for me, fixed my car up in a timely manner, and mad it easy for me to pick it up over the weekend. I am so grateful that the AAA guy took me to this shop, and I wish I lived closer to SLO so I could always take my car here!

They are the definition of honest mechanics, and I don't know what I would have done without their help.

One morning my low tire indicator showed that all 4 of my tires were low. I though the car's computer broke down. Took my car to this wonderful shop. They checked the computer, told me everything was fine, inflated the tires and did not charged me a penny. Thanks for your honestly and great service!

Certified auto is the best in the Business.

the Service manager Don Brimage is a Toyota specialist amongst other brands of vehicles. Manfred (the owner) is a Toyota trained specialist also including other brand of vehicles.

They are the best in the business

We were traveling through SLO and heard a strange rattle in the engine, a high pitched sound. I checked yelp to find this repair shop. We pulled in unannounced on a Friday afternoon and they took our car in, squeezing it ahead of other repairs they already had that day. One hour later we were set to go with an extremely reasonable cost ($127.00). Great service. Wish we had these guys in our home town!

Awesome place. Whacked my bumper on the driveway wall and detached some plastic that was holding it on properly. Wanted to make sure I didn't mess anything metal up seriously. Donny took a look, saw it was only a plastic issue and reattached my bumper for free. I will definitely be back here if I ever need it. Great guys.

I usually never write a review on yelp unless I have to-----and I absolutely have to for certified auto repair.

The people were absolutely friendly and knew exactly what was wrong with my car, did extra complementary check ups ,price was good, all the good things,. but best of all : they gave me a ride to cal poly... to make it in time for my class. ! While talking to Manfred about how thankful I was, he mentioned how he delightfully picks up customers, drive them where they need to go, etc. Lovely , friendly people.

CAR should stand for "Caring Awesome Reliable" Shop. The men who work here are the epitome of professionalism, honesty, and kindness. Yes, "As good as it gets!" seriously.

I was in the middle of a camping trip with two young boys and my engine began dangerously overheating. I drove through town using my GPS to help me find a mechanic and fortunately pulled into their shop. It was during a rainstorm and they obviously had a lot of other work in their garage, but they took the time to take care of my car anyway. They found the problem right away, solved it, and even checked some other safety issues (the air in my tires and trailer tires,) other fluids, etc., and didn't charge me for the work. (I see from the other reviews I'm not the first poor soul they've come to the rescue of.)

I can't thank them enough for helping me get my kids back on the road safely and for their kindness. It made a world of difference to have their help and thoughtfulness, and I will go back there in a heartbeat if I in the area again.

Finished maintenance in under half an hour, and gave an itemized receipt. No complaints.

Fast service! I just walked right in, told them what was wrong and they fixed it quickly. They are a bit pricey but worth it if your in a jam.

Amazing service. Went in for a power steering pump, the pump they received was faulty so they got another one next day and Don stayed open late the next day so I could go pick up my car after work. The price is incredible too, two other mechanics wanted to charge me 3 times what Certified Auto Repair charged me. My new mechanic in San Luis Obispo.

These guys are great. Took my Toyota Camry there. Will be taking my two other asian cars (their specialty) there too. Very honest. Helpful. Quick turnaround. They do a great job of we explaining everything and giving you all the info. Not intimidating at all. Would highly recommend.

So happy I can write a very positive review at last :D lol

This place has what I call Integrity, in the most classic way.

I came here to get a car inspection for an oil leak. if you read my 2 previous reviews you'll see that i'm very weary of anything auto-related. I've learned the hard way the its not uncommon for auto mechanics to try to rip you off in the most ridiculous ways.

Certified Auto Repair told me up front that my inspection would cost $45-90. Their labor fee is $90 per hour; that's a good deal if you ask me. I liked that they were very upfront and clear about it.

About an hour later, we pick up the car. Turns out the oil leak was due to a loose oil filter (damn those guys @ shell!!). The man at Certified Auto said: "well since we didn't do much, i'll charge you for half an hours' work". They did a comprehensive inspection though, checked the brakes, and also filled up the oil for us for $3 more.

I'm so happy with the service here. Next time there is anything wrong with my car, I'm definitely returning.

Great customer service, honest and fair in price. I had my Toyota Rav4 serviced here for brakes, 90k miles inspection and alternator replacement.

In 2006 my oldest daughter started school at Cal Poly in SLO. I needed a car repair place where she could go and get the normal maintenance and repairs done to her vehicle. We live in San Diego and didn't know anyone up in SLO. A close family member in Pismo recommended Certified to me and that was the start of a wonderful relationship with these guys. My second daughter moved up to the area in 2010 to go to school also. So they have taken care of both daughters cars for the a while now. They do what needs to be done and nothing more. My girls have never had a breakdown on the their travels and I think it's because of the fine mechanics at Certified. As a Father I sleep better at night not having to worry about their cars breaking down. These guys are honest and thorough. They are the most trustworthy mechanics I've ever met. Thanks Certified

Was very pleased with the courteous and prompt service provided my college son and his "beater" that was belching black smoke and that I figured was about to be pronounced dead on arrival. Don and his team figured out the multiple problems being experienced by the car, performed the initial repairs and completed some supplemental work deemed necessary to fix the engine-based mechanical issues. The crew was polite at all times and kept my son (and me) informed on progress throughout the repair process. In a day and age where it is increasingly difficult to find a service business that actually seems to care about delivering a positive result to its customers, Certified Auto Repair (and Don in particular) is a gem among common stones.

On a trip down the coast last week, I encountered multiple issues with my Chrysler. I showed up at Certified Auto on about 4:30pm on a Friday and began talking to the service manager, Don, who immediately began looking at the car to diagnose the issues. He knew exactly what was going on and was able to fix both issues the following morning and send us on our way. Tremendous mechanic, fair pricing, quick service, and Don is a good guy as well. Highly recommended, thanks guys for the help!

Everything you want in an auto repair shop. Honest service and everyone is highly knowledgeable. Would recommend over jiffy lube any day.

This is the place for honest, caring, kind, professional service. I can't say enough good things about these guys. The service manager Don is committed to customer service. Thanks Certified Auto, I am one satisfied customer!

I was traveling down 101 with the family and the dreaded Check Engine light came on! You never know what the heck that could mean, and with a car full of family, I wanted to make sure it wasn't something mechanically important or safety related. Certified Auto was the first place I called and I am glad I did! Manager Don told me they were really busy that day and that all his guys were working on other cars. I almost said "thanks" and called another place, but in my hesitation Don asks if I just wanted to know if it was a safety issue or something, and I said exactly. He tells me to come on over and he'll pull the code himself and let me know what it says. So I come on over and he heads right out there, plugs in his reader and tells me what it was, which was luckily nothing big at all! And then tells me NO CHARGE! You don't find that kind of service off the street very often. That is something I would hope for with a shop I've been going to for years, and here I am, an out-of-town guy with no real chance of being a repeat customer. Good, fair, caring, and willing to go out of their way to help a dad out. Obviously not just out for a quick buck. Thanks, Don! Highly recommenced.

For a few days I had been hearing a noise coming from underneath my car every time I accelerated. I was worried something big was wrong, so I decided to take my 2002 Jetta in to be looked at. I was actually looking for the German Auto Serivice place, when I saw Certified Auto Repair, so I just took it there instead. The men who helped me could not have been nicer!

First, one rode around with me in my car listening for the noise it was making (of course it didn't make the noise when I wanted it to) and so when we came back, he lifted it up and saw there was just something ratting against the exhaust. He was so honest and told me that it wasn't a big deal and it wasn't necessary to fix if I didn't mind the noise. After that, he looked over my tires and brakes and refilled my oil. I thought for sure I would have to pay some sort of fee for getting it looked at, but he told me I owed nothing!

The men there were so personable, honest, and nice!!! If anything ever goes wrong in my Jetta, I am taking it there FOR SURE! Certified Auto Repair on Marsh is seriously the place to go!!!

Had a problem with the regulator controlling the window mechanism on my Honda so that the window was stuck in the down position. This was a big problem as I was just passing through on my way up North to camp and Don went the extra mile to squeeze me in even though it was late in the day. Took a huge hassle an turned it into a minor inconvenience. Prompt and very professional, would use again.

i can't say enough good things about these guys... i was headed north at around 6pm and had a couple of hours to go on my trip... my truck started to have a bad vibration/shake from the rear end... i pulled over... checked the tires and wheels and found that the right rear wheel was very hot to the touch and it was leaking fluid on the inside of the brake drum... thinking the worst i saw $$ signs... bearing... seal.. possible brake pads... etc.. etc.. i found certified through yelp.. called them at 6:30pm... figured that they would be closed for the day... but don answered and i explained my problem... he said they the mechanics where gone for the day and they were full up with cars but bring it in first thing in the morning and they would take a look at it... jay the mechanic is awesome... he found that the vent for my rear differential was clogged causing the fluid to come out the seal and that my brakes where adjusted a little to tight... he thoroughly cleaned everything up... the seal... the brake pads.. drum... he even cleaned the inside of my wheel that was caked in grease packed mud causing the wheel to be unbalanced... adjusted my brakes and had me back on the road before 10am... i am convinced that the dealer would have replaced my rear axle seal and bearing and brake pads to the tune of over $600.. don and his team are stand up guys...

I've taken my Lexus and Toyota to Certified Auto for years and years. Manfred (the owner) is a Toyota trained specialist. They've always done careful and skillful repairs, especially to my old Lexus that had some quirky issues. Honest, family owned, highly recommended. My best repair experience in SLO, and I've tried many shops.
